For those who are on a driving holiday of Australia and are driving from Western Australia to the East coast of Australia may want to consider hooking up with The Darling River Run after driving across The Nullarbor Plain via the Eyre Highway. (Or visa versa if wanting to drive from The East coast of Australia to West Australia). Either way provides a wonderful adventure to maximise a visit Australia experience.

No question that Darwin is a long way from the Darling River - even for Australians who refer to something 500kms away as 'down the road' - but if visiting the wonderful Northern Territory, chances are you will also visit Alice Springs.  Well that's about half way so continuing south will allow you to visit South Australia and Adelaide and then onto experience one of Australia's great rivers.

For the slightly more adventurous, and wanting to see Queensland's outback,  there is a great  drive from Tennant Creek across to Mt Isa across to Cloncurry, Winton, Longreach, Barcaldine, Charleville, and then to Bourke.

For the serious adventurer, (and serious 4x4) the drive from Mt Isa can incorporate Birdsville and across to the Strzelecki Track and onto Cameron Corner. From Cameron Corner the Silver City Highway leads to Broken Hill (and Menindee) or across to Bourke via Wanaaring.
