Stephens Creek Reservoir

Stephens Creek Reservoir - Stephens Creek Weir is located 17 kilometres from Broken Hill on the Barrier Highway. In the past, water shortages were always a problem and the long standing indifference of Sydney governments to Broken Hill's water supply angered locals. Until 1914 Stephen's Creek was the town's only reservoir, but in 1903 it was completely empty and in 1907 and 1909 it almost dried up. Now the reservoir has a lookout area and is a pleasant place for a picnic and a short stroll. It features a children's playground, picnic tables and coin operated barbecue...

The tiny town of Louth (population 50) sits on the banks of the Darling River and came into existence in 1856 when a pub was built to cater for the passing river trade. Today the population expands to thousands when the Louth Turf Club holds their annual race meeting in August. The event had become so popular that the local airfield usually hosts upwards of fifty aeroplanes. Louth has a cemetery that holds a monument to love. Louth's small cemetery has the Matthews Monument, a tribute to love and tragedy, which projects an impressive beam of light during sunset each day - it has to be seen to be believed...

"On the banks of the mighty Murray River, and but a short drive from Mildura, Trentham Estate is one of the region's best wineries and vineyards, producing ripe, sunny, and high-quality wines that once again show some of the more "sophisticated" regions further south a thing or two. There's a restaurant and lovely views of the river; good barbecuing facilities, and a range of invariably satisfying wines: Chardonnay, Merlot and Shiraz can be of the highest quality given the very affordable price." - Wine commentator Ben Canaider. Julie Hart Gallery

Julie Hart has fast become recognised as a vibrant young landscape artist, with unlimited potential in her field, who is not only able to create and capture a surreal depth of image, but also a perception of movement in her paintings, that many dream of, but few ever attain. Julie carries the prestige of the Hart name, but as yet not the price and this creates an excellent point at which to start a serious art collection, or add to the credibility of an existing collection. Perceived by many to be the one to carry her fathers mantle (although not as prolific as Pro) this makes her work attractive to both art lovers and investors alike. Over the last several years, demand has doubled for Julie's work due to the ascetic appeal of her paintings and in part to the free and honest approach she has taken to her painting...

Railway Mineral and Train Museum

The Railway Museum building was erected in 1905, from sandstone quarried from the Block 114 Mine Lease, replacing the original timber and iron station built in 1888. The Silverton Tramway Company operated a private narrow gauge railway system between Broken Hill and Cockburn (on the South Australian border) from 1888 to 1970. In 1970, following the introduction by the Commonwealth Government of the standard gauge system, the Silverton Tramway Company's Railway services were discontinued. See the Comet Train Engine, which is now housed in the museum and imagine what it was like in its hey-day! The museum also houses the hospital museum, the migration museum and has an extensive mineral collection. The Broken Hill Migrant Museum was set up by the Broken Hill Migrant Heritage Committee Inc. Broken Hill is more than a landscape and old buildings - it is the people that make it special and the Broken Hill exhibition gives the local people a voice and tells their stories. ...
